I’ve been contacting people at Isett Seta for the last two years (Yes, 2 years), simply to get a reprint of a certificate. The contact person I’ve have been dealing with for the last year, no longer works there according to the out of office reply. Thinking this may be a step forward I proceeded to contact the person referred to in the Out of office reply and to my surprise it was quite a step back. Here is what I wrote:

As the first quarter of 2011 has ended I find myself in a new position at a new company. It would appear that 2010 still hung around for the entire first quarter of 2011. Nonetheless, I say goodbye to 2010 now, and move toward a greater second quarter.

Getting NetworkManager to send your hostname to DHCP Server in Fedora 13

Network Manager in Fedora still ignores the old system wide /etc/dhclient.conf(it’s rude like that), so you would have to create a /etc/dhclient-$IFNAME.conf
to get it to work. The contents will still be the usual:

send host-name "my.little.pony"; request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-search, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name;
I don’t request much, but I do make demands. After you may safely right click you’re nm-applet icon and select your current connection, it will re-initialize(I may be phrasing this wrong) you current connection and you’re set!

It’s 2010 and it feels like I’ve dragged 2009 with me. I need a holiday. All in due time I suppose. Right now, there’s just too much to do with 5 months to go until the wedding. Just a quick update about what’s being going on lately.

as of last year December I now hold an RHCE under my belt too.
been helping plan the wedding which, I have to say is quite exciting, though it can be quite tiresome as well.
been contributing to the fedora-fonts SIG by packaging, some things.
been driving a lot. (like… seriously)

Not much has been going on aside from work and planning though.

Ubuntu-ZA Karmic Release Party (Cape Town)

I briefly stopped by the Ubuntu-ZA Karmic release party, held at the University of Cape Town. It was quite refreshing to chat to Jonathan Carter(highvoltage) after so long. I also got the chance to meet David Rubin(drubin) and Michael Gorvan(cocooncrash) in person. Although, I had not been there long enough to sit in on any of the talks, the experience was quite pleasant. I hope to manage my time more efficiently for the next release party, so I may participate more.

Luxi Sans

This will get you the Luxi family of fonts originally designed for the X Window System. Quite similar to Lucida. I always enjoy this typeface. It used to be the default for RHEL, but afaik the Liberation family of fonts are set by default these days. Anyhow just a great font to use on the daily.

Sage is an rss reader?

I’ve been using Sage, more frequently than I intended to as my RSS feed reader. Sage is a lightweight atom and rss feed reader extension for firefox. The default style feels a bit clunky, not too easy on the eyes, but it allows for custom css styles, and there are many available. The one I currently use is Akzente. If you follow the link you’ll find instructions on how to install and set it up too. It’s really simple.

Adobe 64bit flash Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5

I’ve upgraded to Karmic Koala Alpha a couple days ago and realized I am missing flash again. Due to the apturl bug here, firefox wouldn’t do what’s neccessary to install it so I decided to do it the good old fashioned way which thus far, has not failed me yet.

$ wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/libflashplayer-10.0.32.18.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
$ tar xvzf libflashplayer-10.0.32.18.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
$ mkdir .mozilla/plugins # if it doesn't exist
$ mv libflashplayer.so .mozilla/plugins/

Provided you’ve uninstalled your previously installed versions, you should be able to open to check whether everything is ok by typing ‘about:plugins’ in your URL location bar. You should see something like the following at the bottom of the page, at which point you can test by visiting your favorite flash site such as www.fat-pie.com.

Life updates…

Things have been quite intense over the past couple months. Here’s what’s been happening…

Close relatives have been in and out of hospital for the months of June and July
The exhaustion of having spent every or every second day in hospital left me fatigue and in a somnolent state for the two months.
Relieved myself from some minor financial difficulty.
Close relatives passed away.
My brother injured hist neck in a rugby match and was admitted to hospital, he was kept there for two weeks.
My mother re-married about week ago.
My personal cellphone has become nonexistent, although the number still exists.
The state of my work mobile has worsened.
Started learning PERL.
Got my RHCT. Next up RHCE.
A few other non-highlighted issues…

…aside from feeling like I’ve just stepped out of a coma, Things are slowly starting to get better and I’m re-gaining control of my life which has been a turbulent storm since May 2009.
